Green Collar Academy
The Green Collar Academy operates on alternate Saturdays. Students participate 26 Saturdays a year for five hours each session. The dual-theme curriculum focuses on Public Policy and Leadership Development and Ecology and Environmental careers.
Students learn math and science in real-life settings as they plan and execute projects such as collecting data from their homes and community to analyze and chart their environmental needs. A portion of the curriculum is focused on environmental topics such as carbon footprint, the impact of litter, fuel economy.
Theory is coupled with hands-on exercises. The program uses positive reinforcement techniques. As students successfully apply literacy, math, science, and technology to local environmental issues, they see concrete results.
